The SpiNNaker project began in 2005. The project goal is to simulate 1% of the human brain in real time. To achieve this goal, a new neuromorphic hardware architecture has been developed. The architecture consists of a large number of massively parallel computing units. I3S Laboratory's SpiNNaker machine (Spiky) is a 48 node board called SpiNN5 board. It is composed of 48 SpiNNaker chips, each of which contains 18 ARM 968 cores which makes 864 cores throughout the machine.
